Dhirubhai Ambani's Quotes ! Who knows....reading these quotes might create another bunch of Ambanis for the future !

'Secret of my success was to have ambition and know minds of men'

* True entrepreneurship comes only from risk-taking.

* Pursue your goal, even in the face of difficulties. Convert difficulties into opportunities. Keep your morale high, in spite of setbacks. At the end you are bound to succeed.

* My advice to young entrepreneurs is not to accept defeat in the face of odds. Challenge negative forces with hope, self-confidence and conviction. I believe that ambition and initiative will ultimately triumph. The success of the young entrepreneur will be the key to India's transformation in the new millennium.

* Dhirubhai will go one day. But Reliance's employees and shareholders will keep it afloat. Reliance is now a concept in which the Ambanis have become irrelevant.

* I have trusted people and they have put their trust in me. I have encouraged youth, and they have never let me down. I have asked my people to take initiative and to take risks. It has paid me rich dividends. I insist on excellence. This helps us to be leaders. Reliance is built on some of these principles.

* The secret of Reliance's success was to have ambition and to know the minds of men.

* Growth has no limit at Reliance. I keep revising my vision. Only when you dream it you can do it.

'We have lost the habit of thinking big'

* The problem with Indians is that we have lost the habit of thinking big!

* We can prove to the world that India can do it. That Indians are not afraid of competition. That India is a nation of achievers.

* I dream India of becoming a great economic superpower.

* We must forge a new partnership for a great India. A strong and constructive partnership between industry, government and society.

* We must always go for the best. Do not compromise on quality. Reject if it is not the best -- not only the best in India, but globally.

* If India wants to be a great nation, we must have courage to trust. This is my sincere belief.

* All we have to do is to break the shackles that chain the energies of our people, and India's economy will record a quantum leap and move into a new, higher orbit of growth, competitiveness and productivity.

* I can never fully repay the debt I owe to Mumbai. To all of you. My past was shaped in Mumbai.

* For those who dare to dream, there is a whole world to win!

* I am deaf to the word 'no.'

'Ideas are no one's monopoly'

* I am 100 per cent pro-liberalisation. I do not think any industrialist is against it. But we should protect our industries, from unfair competition.

* There is no question about that (retirement). Business is my hobby. It is not a burden to me. In any case Reliance now can run without me.

* I give least importance to being Number one. I consider myself to be fortunate in this position and would like to contribute to nation building in some way.

* Does making money excite me? No, but I have to make money for my shareholders. What excites me is achievement, doing something difficult. In this room extraordinary things must happen.

* Think big, think fast, think ahead. Ideas are no one's monopoly.

* Our dreams have to be bigger. Our ambitions higher. Our commitment deeper. And our efforts greater. This is my dream for Reliance and for India.

* First and foremost, I owe my success and achievements to the affection, friendship and trust of millions of employees, customers, shareholders, and business associates, who have stood by me and been a major source of my strength all along.

* I believe that the success of Reliance cannot be attributed to the qualities and achievements of one individual, or even a group of individuals, but has to be viewed as a triumph of a process, and a spirit that binds the entire Reliance family together.

* I consider myself a pathfinder. I have been excavating the jungle and making the road for others to walk. I like to be the first in everything I do.

* I, as school kid, was a member of the Civil Guard, something like today's NCC. We had to salute our officers who went round in jeeps. So I thought one day I will also ride in a jeep and somebody else will salute me.

* My fulfillment lies in the satisfaction of every member of the Reliance family, comprising thousands of workers, managers, business associates and over five million shareholders. Being instrumental in creating wealth for over 5 million India families, and bringing prosperity and well being to their life is the best source of satisfaction and joy for me.

'You do not require an invitation to make profits'

* Give the youth a proper environment. Motivate them. Extend them the support they need. Each one of them has infinite source of energy. They will deliver.

* You do not require an invitation to make profits.

* If you work with determination and with perfection, success will follow.

* Between my past, the present and the future, there is one common factor: Relationship and Trust. This is the foundation of our growth.

* We bet on people.

* Meeting the deadlines is not good enough, beating the deadlines is my expectation.

* Don't give up, courage is my conviction.

* We cannot change our rulers, but we can change the way they rule us.

* Roll up your sleeves and help. You and your team share the same DNA.

* Be a safety net for your team.

* Always be the silent benefactor. Don't tom-tom about how you helped someone.

* Dream big, but dream with your eyes open.

* Leave the professional alone!

* Change your orbit, constantly!

* Money is not a product by itself, it is a by-product, so don't chase it.

Does anybody remember Aug 15th ? What does it signify ?

Independence !
Independence from what ?
Does Independence mean recognition, money , fame, power ,responsibility ?
What is the Independence that our forefathers dreamed of ?

Well, I dont think we are independent yet !
We are living in this world with Insecurity, Fear, hatred, Jealousy, Enemity, Violence, Intolerance, ....
When we have not eradicated these words how could we say we are Independent.

As Mahatma Gandhi said " An Eye for an Eye makes a world Blind !"

Where are the ideals of Mahathma Gandhi ?

If somebody kills you, You wanna kill him...You wanna smoke the enemy out !
Why dont u try to kill the hatred inside the people than kill the human being ?

Everyday we live in a fear that somebody anytime anywhere would wanna do something wrong to us ! Why dont we start trusting the people ? Why dont we start to share the love instead of hatred ?

I for once would wanna change the world ! But can I ? I think I can !

If atleast one person on the earth understands what I am trying to tell I have done my duty of using Internet to spread the word of LOVE !

India ! Can you define what is it ?

God seems to be in favor of Indian Cricket for the first time !

Have u ever seen rains saving an Indian Innings in Cricket ?
I have never ever seen weather playing a role in victory ( ofcourse a morale victory) but atleast one. Its always been the case where Indian Cricket always lost to a team or weather whenever it travels abroad.
Even Gods seems to have realized that mere cricketers cannot help India win a Test match abroad inspite of the presence of Cricket Gods in the team.

Good luck India ! Good luck to us.

The 21 Biggest Technology Flops

Hype is the coin of the realm in the technology business. If you listen to vendors and the media, it may sometimes seem as though every new product, service, concept or even security threat will be the Next Big Thing. Some live up to all the fuss, but many don't -- and some fail spectacularly.

Take the Michelangelo virus, the subject of a media frenzy 15 years ago. March 6, 1992, was the day that the dreaded virus was supposed to strike. Journalists went overboard covering this virus, which had supposedly burrowed itself into hard drives around the world throughout 1991 and was set to start destroying data on March 6, the birthday of the famous artist.

It didn't happen that way, of course: Damage was minimal. But in honor of Michelangelo's birthday, we thought we'd track down history's biggest technology flops.

Tricks on increasing India's wins

by ebie m sam on Mar 26, 2007 07:47 PM
1. Immediate tours to Ireland, Scotland, Namibia and Canada.

2. Drop the scheduled tour of Bangladesh, as it would be a challenging period..

3. No more tours to South Africa, New Zealand, WI, Sri Lanka etc, for the next five years. And NEVER to Australia.

4. Invite teams to India only after preparing special pitches, turning very much. No aasistance to fast bowlers (should get wickets only on yorkers, coz if it pitches, ball moves like slow motion replay)

I dont argue that this will tremendously increase India's winning rates, but atleast this is the best set of solutions currently available.

Indian Space Programme – Reaching Out, Touching Lives

The Indian space programme, implemented by the Department of Space (DOS) continues to strive for development of space science and technology in a self-reliant manner and reaching their benefits to the society. Since the space programme started with the establishment of Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station in 1963, followed by the formation of Indian Space Research Organisation in 1969 and the formal setting up of Space Commission and establishment of Department of Space in 1972, the space programme has taken important strides in meeting its objectives.

The two major operational space systems – Indian National Satellite (INSAT) for telecommunication, television broadcasting and meteorological services and Indian Remote Sensing Satellites (IRS) for resources monitoring and management — together with the two operational launch vehicles, Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) primarily for launching remote sensing satellites into polar orbits and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) for launching communication and meteorological satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) — have continued to provide valuable services to the nation in a self-reliant manner. The application programmes, evolved with the participation of user agencies, have helped in tuning the space systems to meet national requirements. Pursuit of space science research has contributed to increase knowledge and understanding of various scientific phenomena and to evolve technologies required for the space systems. The capabilities that India has built in the process have been gainfully used for marketing the Indian space hardware and services in the international market.

India : Union Budget 2007-2008

“We need faster growth because, at our level of incomes, there can be no
doubt that we must expand the production base of the economy if we want to
provide broad-based improvement in the material conditions of living of our
population, ..........
But growth alone is not enough if it does not produce a flow of benefits
that is sufficiently wide-spread. We, therefore, need a growth process that is much
more inclusive, .......... and which also ensures access to essential services such
as health and education for all sections of the community”.

seventh biggest one-day point drop ever for the Dow

Stocks slumped Tuesday on worries about economic growth at home and abroad, sending the Dow industrials to their biggest point drop since the day the market reopened after the Sept. 11 attacks.

A big decline in Chinese stocks, weakness in some key readings on the U.S. economy and news that Vice President Dick Cheney was the apparent target in a Taliban suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan all fueled the selling on Wall Street.
CNNMoney.com's Allen Wastler discusses the plunging durable goods report and more business news.

The Dow Jones industrial average (down 416.02 to 12,216.24, Charts) tumbled 416.02 points, the biggest point loss since Sept. 17, 2001, when the 30-share index tumbled nearly 685 points.

It was the seventh biggest one-day point drop ever for the Dow. On a percentage basis, the Dow lost about 3.3 percent - its biggest one-day percentage loss since March 2003.

Parking Attendant 2.0

Would you trust a robot to park your car? That's the question facing New Yorkers as the city's first robotic parking garage opens in Chinatown. With new software and enough laser and radar sensors to make Fort Knox jealous, it's believed that the new facility — which can squeeze 67 cars in space that would otherwise hold only 24 — will not suffer the kind of glitches that caused the nation's first robotic garage in nearby NJ to drop and trap cars

Beware ! you might lose your saved email !

"The Consumerist brings us a tale of woe which is apparently generating outrage in some quarters, along with death threats. Lycos email customer Whitney did not access her account for 30 days. This resulted in Lycos deleting over two years worth of email. It isn't so much Lycos' policy that's the problem (though that requires some scrutiny), but the response of the 'manager of all of Customer Service,' Mike Jandreau. Apparently he's not too service oriented, as his exchange with Whitney shows. And since this story was posted to The Consumerist, apparently Mr. Jandreau has become the focus of some unwanted attention. Of course, his final response to her might have something to with it: 'I'm sorry, no one here has any intentions of helping you with anything. I am the manager of all of Customer Service. There is no one higher than me that you will speak with. You violated our policy, which is, despite what you say, completely clear. No one is holding anything hostage. Your e-mails have been completely deleted, and no amount of money can now restore them.'"

YouTube To Pay For User-Generated Content

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, YouTube CEO Chad Hurley has revealed that the company plans to financially compensate users who produce and upload their content. With Google's purchase of YouTube last year, followed by more aggressive attempts to monetize the site (such as the deal struck with Verizon Wireless), it was inevitable that YouTube would come under pressure to share some of those fruits with ordinary users. But why didn't YouTube pay its users from the start? Hurley said: 'We didn't want to build a system that was motivated by monetary reward. We wanted to really build a true community around video. When you start out with giving money to people from day one, the people you do attract will just switch to the next provider who's paying more. We're at a scale now that we feel we can do that and still have a true community around video

The next time you're at an airport looking for a wireless hot spot, and you see one called "Free Wi-Fi" or a similar name, beware -- you may end up being victimized by the latest hot-spot scam hitting airports across the country.

You could end up being the target of a "man in the middle" attack, in which a hacker is able to steal the information you send over the Internet, including usernames and passwords. And you could also have your files and identity stolen, end up with a spyware-infested PC and have your PC turned into a spam-spewing zombie. The attack could even leave your laptop open to hackers every time you turn it on, by allowing anyone to connect to it without your knowledge.

Researchers Developing Single-Pixel Camera

"According to the BBC, researchers in the US are developing a single-pixel camera to capture high-quality images without the 'expense' of traditional digital photography. The idea behind such a device is that traditional digital photography is wasteful. Most of the information taken in by the camera is thrown away in the compression process. From the article: 'The digital micromirror device, as it is known, consists of a million or more tiny mirrors each the size of a bacterium. "From that mirror array, we then focus the light through a second lens on to one single photo-detector - a single pixel." As the light passes through the device, the millions of tiny mirrors are turned on and off at random in rapid succession. Complex mathematics then interprets the signals assembling a high resolution image from the thousands of sequential single-pixel snapshots. '"

Sachin (in his sleep): Maro, maro, that’s a four

NEW DELHI: Did you know that ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar's sleepwalking gives others sleepless nights, or that Javagal Srinath once had reached the field wearing skipper Kapil Dev’s pair of trousers?

These and many more anecdotes, on and off the field from cricketers form part of a book Caught and Told by Sandeep Patil and Mid day Sports Editor Clayton Murzello.

"My habit of sleepwalking has given others a lot of sleepless nights, but nothing more than my habit of talking while in my sleep," writes batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.

As his roommate during his debut tour of Pakistan in 1989, Kiran More heard him shout more than once in his sleep: "Maro, maro, that’s a four." What shocked him more was that during one these spells, "I even broke my bracelet," Tendulkar writes.

If Tendulkar writes about his habits, Sourav Ganguly recalls the bullies Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli were. "At the national under-15 camp in Indore, there were no greater bullies than Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli," writes Ganguly.

He recalls how his room in the stadium, where they were staying, was flooded and realized that Sachin and Kambli were at it again, taking revenge for a minor argument.

His first Test with the Australian accent ended in a disaster, admits Anshuman Gaikwad. Taken aback at the unusual query from an Australian official at the Melbourne Cricket ground when he reached as replacement for Surinder Amarnath in 1977-78, Gaekwad said a firm "No".

"Have you come here to die?” The Aussie, however, asked the same question again and it was captain Bishen Singh Bedi who came to the rescue and told Gaekwad that what the officer was asking was, "Have you come here today?", Gaekwad recalls.

The great thing about cricket is that it produces so many characters and so many funny moments, says Greg Chappell in his foreword. While cricket has become more of a game of statistics these days, it has really been more of a game of stories, he says. "I think the folklore of the game has survived and the game is richer because of its characters and stories," Chappell says.

Former India coach John Wright recalls how he was embarrassed when he once asked Harbhajan Singh during a camp in Chennai in 2001 to run a few laps on the ground and rushed to the pavilion to take a call from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. "When I returned to the nets, I started looking for Bhajji and was told that he was still running. That was nearly 90 minutes after I got that telephone call!" Wright says.

Gideon Haigh had this to say on introduction of Sunil Gavaskar when his team was honoured by the West Australia Cricket Association in 1980-81. The master of ceremonies began by saying, “I would now like to welcome a man small of stature but a giant among crickets. India’s greatest batsman, perhaps the best player in the world at the present time" Ladies and gentlemen, could you please put your hands together for "Sir Neil Gavaskar!"

Virender Sehwag recalls when Harbhajan Singh found a nice way to beat boredom on the tour to Sri Lanka in 2002 as he went around wearing a dreadful mask to every room on his floor. Sourav Ganguly and his wife Dona screamed at the sight while Rahul Dravid almost dropped dead in fear!

Tendulkar also remembers when he challenged Vinod Kambli to wear a skirt during one of the Cooch Behar trophy tours and how the irrepressible Vinod did not think twice and was all over the streets of Ahmedabad wearing a skirt. He removed it only when they returned to the hotel at 11 pm!

And beat this, one of the best fast bowlers India has ever produced, Sanjay Manjrekar, once asked Gavaskar, "Sir, when you faced the fast bowlers from the West Indies, did you ever see the ball?" Gavaskar's reply is not mentioned, but the statistics state that by then he had scored 13 of his 34 centuries against the West Indies!

Google Search Engine Shutdown !

Have we ever stopped for a moment to think how dependent we have become on Google search ?
Have we ever wondered why 99 in 100 people have Google as their homepage ?
Have we ever wondered what would be the repercussions of closing down google for an hour ?
How many times in a day have we thought of browsing the internet and ended up reaching our preferred page through google search ?
How many times do we use the address bar in browser to actually type in the exact address that we would like to browse ?
I wish I had the expertise to block access to "www.google.com" to all the users across the globe for an hour. Even now when I am thinking of blocking the access to google, I am again opening google homepage to search for resources. I wish to write a lot more...but what do I write ? Since the inception of google, I have stopped thinking... Maybe not a google shutdown, but atleast someday I would use my own working brain to write an article that has no google written over it ! Good luck to us !

Google Tops 100 Best Places To Work

"Fortune Magazine's annual '100 Best Companies to Work For' list is out, and Google topped the list in their debut appearance. Some highlights of the benefits of working for Google that caught my eye were the free gourmet meals and the massages. The chance to spend 20% of your time working on your own personal projects also sounds very appealing. Of course, with resumes rolling in at the rate of thousands a day, the competition is fierce."

Amazon founder recruiting for private space program

The founder of retail website Amazon has advertised for engineers to join his private program aimed at opening the galaxy to more human exploration.

Jeff Bezos posted his hiring offer at http://www.blueorigin.com , the website of the Blue Origin 9 company he is financing with the goal of making spaceflights more affordable for the masses.

"We're working, patiently and step-by-step, to lower the cost of spaceflight so that many people can afford to go and so that we humans can better continue exploring the solar system," Bezos wrote.

"Accomplishing this mission will take a long time, and we're working on it methodically. Slow and steady is the way to achieve results, and we do not kid ourselves into thinking this will get easier as we go along."

Bezos included photos and a video clip of a November test flight of a Goddard rocket in Texas. An Amazon web service was used to create the visual presentation.

The Impact of Immigrant Innovators

"The Wall Street Journal is carrying a report on immigrant innovators and entrepreneurs. According to the piece, nearly a quarter of all California startups which went into business between 1995 and 2005 had an immigrant as a founding member. These businesses, together, employ almost half a million workers and generated about $50 billion in sales in the year 2005. The study seems quite topical, given recent discussions in the U.S. capital. From the article: 'Supporters of an immigration bill are likely to use the study to argue the importance of foreign-born workers to the U.S. economy. An immigration bill passed by the last Congress and heavily lobbied by business groups would have greatly increased the number of green cards available to skilled workers. Business has long argued that the U.S. schools aren't turning out enough scientists, mathematicians and engineers, and that the economy will lose its competitive edge without more skilled foreign workers.'"

Voice Over IP Under Threat?

"The IT Observer is discussing the possible scary future of Voice over IP targeted viruses, and what that could mean for the consumer. The article discusses the likelihood that VoIP is going to become even more popular, and the damage that a targeted 'flash virus' could perpetrate in a very short amount of time. From the article: 'Let's imagine a scenario that could become commonplace in the near future: A user has an IP telephony system on his computer (both at home and at work). In his address book on the computer there is an entry, under the name Bank, with the number 123-45-67. Now, a hacker launches a mass-mailing attack on thousands or millions of email addresses using code that simply enters users' address books and modifies any entry under the name Bank to 987-65-43. ... If any of these users receives a message saying that there is a problem in their account, and asking them to call their bank (a typical phishing strategy), they may not be suspicious, as they are not clicking on a link in an email ...
